Stiff Spine? Try These on for Size! (part III)

I hope the week is going well for you. We’re continuing on with our series on how we can loosen things up in your stiff spine to relieve tightness. If you missed out on the first 2 parts, you can read about them HERE for Part 1, and HERE for Part 2. For today, I wanted to talk about how we can progress these movements (assuming that pain and any drastic imbalance is not present) through the use of an external load… in our case, a body bar. I use a 10 lb. body bar in the video, but something along the lines of a 5-8 lb body bar to start off with would be fine.

Check out Type II:

And, check out Type I:

So, as we can see, a body bar is a great way to progress this motion, as the extra weight allows us to drive a little more into the desired range of motion through the mass of the body bar and the momentum of the swing.

Next time, we’re continuing on with our progression with increasing motion through your stiff spine, only now, assuming all of the above exercises are not too much of a challenge for you with either pain or range of motion restrictions, we’re going to talk about how we can integrate the lower body in with all of the action.

See you then! Have a great weekend everyone!
